Bayern Munich’s search for a goalkeeper is taking on more concrete form—and the list of potential candidates is growing longer by the day. The Munich club is apparently considering numerous experienced goalkeepers who could become the new backup starting next season.
According to information from Sky, Kevin Trapp is now also among the candidates. The longtime Frankfurt goalkeeper transferred to Paris FC in the summer of 2025 for around one million euros and remains under contract there through 2028.
However, the 36-year-old is by no means the only prominent name that Bayern officials are considering.
Bayern has numerous goalkeepers on its radar
According to Sky, the Munich club is looking at, among others, Marvin Schwäbe of 1. FC Köln, Frederik Rönnow of Union Berlin, Lukas Hradecky of AS Monaco, and Koen Casteels of Al-Qadsiah.
In addition, Nick Pope of Newcastle United, Juan Musso of Atlético Madrid, and Rui Silva of Sporting are reportedly part of the broader pool of candidates.
Oliver Baumann, Bernd Leno, and Finn Dahmen had already been linked to the German record champions. This makes it increasingly clear what kind of player Bayern is looking for.
According to reports, the Munich club does not want to sign a young competitor for Jonas Urbig. Instead, they are looking for an experienced goalkeeper who will accept the role of backup but who also possesses enough quality to step in without any problems when needed.
Bayern also has clear financial expectations. The new goalkeeper should ideally be available on a free transfer or, at the very least, for a manageable fee.
The search is driven by the planned generational shift in Munich’s goal. There are strong indications that Manuel Neuer will retire in the summer of 2027. However, the 40-year-old has not yet made a final decision.
Should Neuer indeed retire, Urbig is set to become the new number one. Bayern would then like to pair the young national team goalkeeper with an experienced backup.
Baumann and Dahmen appear to be difficult options

However, not every candidate on Munich’s list is likely to be available for this role. The magazine *kicker* recently raised questions specifically about Baumann and Dahmen.
In Baumann’s case, there is a possibility that he will continue his career at TSG Hoffenheim. The 36-year-old could attempt to surpass Karl-Heinz Körbel as the Bundesliga’s all-time leader in appearances. He currently needs 75 more appearances to do so.
The intended role could also pose a problem for Dahmen. According to *kicker*, there are doubts as to whether the 28-year-old would be comfortable sitting on the bench behind Urbig for the long term.
That is precisely why experienced goalies like Trapp or Leno are likely to be of interest to Bayern. Both have international experience and are at a stage in their careers where the role of backup goalkeeper might generally be more conceivable. Whether they would actually be willing to do so, however, remains to be seen.
Bayern has not yet made a concrete decision. But one thing is clear in light of the ever-growing list of candidates: The Munich club is preparing intensively for the post-Neuer era—and the division of roles is clearly mapped out. Urbig is set to become the number one, with an experienced goalkeeper backing him up.
