Jonas Urbig made the most of his opportunity with the German national team. Following his successful debut in the 2-0 win over Serbia, the FC Bayern goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw in Greece—and once again kept a clean sheet.
The 23-year-old was called into action just a few seconds into the game. Urbig made a strong save on a header by Georgios Masouras, preventing an early deficit. “I was alert right away, even though the game was very late today. I was happy to help the team,” he explained to ARD after the match.
Urbig remained alert and error-free as the match progressed. The Bayern keeper was once again on hand to stop a header by Konstantinos Mavropanos shortly after halftime. Still, he wasn’t entirely satisfied with the result.
Urbig Disappointed with Draw Against Greece
“It hurts because we put in a dominant performance throughout the entire game,” Urbig explained. In his view, Germany lacked, above all, the final touch in attack.
“If we’d capitalized on that, everyone would be writing, ‘A commanding performance by the German national team,’” said the 23-year-old. Conviction and precision were lacking, especially on the final pass.
Still, Urbig was able to find a silver lining in the match. “We didn’t manage to score, but we still kept a clean sheet today. Those are the two sides of the coin when you look at the game.”
For the DFB squad, this was already the second consecutive game without conceding a goal, following the 2-0 win over Serbia. The national team had last achieved this in November 2025.
Urbig’s personal record under Klopp thus reads flawlessly: two international matches, two clean sheets. Especially given the still-unresolved goalkeeper situation at the DFB, the Bayern pro has thereby strengthened his case.
Urbig raves about working with Klopp

Before the match, Klopp had explained that he wanted to start Urbig again partly because the goalkeeper rarely gets playing time at FC Bayern behind Manuel Neuer. The national team coach expressly declined to confirm that the two appearances would alter the goalkeeping hierarchy in any way.
Urbig himself is staying out of this discussion. When asked about his chances of further call-ups and playing time, he explained: “It’s basically not my responsibility who he calls up and who he puts in the lineup. So I can’t answer that.”
The Bayern goalkeeper became much more talkative when the topic turned to Klopp. “Today we showed that we still understand the coach’s vision. Thanks to the way he gets us fired up, today was another step forward despite the 0-0 draw.”
Klopp conveyed “a lot of joy and fun” and brought good energy to the team. Urbig also views the experiment with two different squads positively. The past few days have shown that “you can gel well as a team even in a short period of time.”
Whether Urbig will be back for the next DFB training camp is up to Klopp. In any case, the Bayern goalkeeper has certainly made a name for himself on the field with his first two appearances. The next opportunity comes on November 13, when Germany faces Serbia on the road.
