Four Bayern pros are in the starting lineup against Greece. Despite clear dominance, the DFB team could only manage a 0–0 draw.
The German national team ended its first international match window under Jürgen Klopp with a disappointing draw. In the 0–0 tie against Greece, four Bayern Munich pros—Jonas Urbig, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Tom Bischof, and Lennart Karl—started the match.
From Munich’s perspective, the match began with a crucial play right away. Just 90 seconds in, Urbig prevented an early deficit with a strong reflex save, scraping a header by Georgios Masouras off the line.
After that, Germany increasingly took control. Pavlovic and Bischof ensured plenty of possession in the center, while Karl played on the wing and, after coming off the bench against Serbia, got his chance in the starting lineup this time.
Bischof at the center of a disallowed goal
Germany’s best stretch of play came midway through the first half. Jonathan Burkardt scored from close range following a strong run by Derry Scherhant to give Germany what appeared to be the lead. However, the goal was disallowed after a VAR review because the ball had struck Bischof’s right arm as it was being played.
For the Bayern youngster, it was an unfortunate moment in an otherwise solid performance. Bischof remained on the field until the 83rd minute before being substituted.
Karl also made an impact in his first start under Klopp, but failed to contribute decisively to a goal and was replaced by Saïd El Mala in the 63rd minute. Pavlovic once again played a key role in the center and helped organize Germany’s play.
After the break, the game became more disjointed. Although Germany remained in control, they created far fewer clear-cut chances in front of the Greek goal. No further goals were scored in the closing stages either.
The DFB team thus concludes its first four matches under Klopp with five points. From FC Bayern’s perspective, however, there were several positive signs: Urbig kept a clean sheet, Pavlovic reaffirmed his important role in midfield, and Bischof and Karl gained further valuable playing time in the DFB jersey.
