Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper plans for the post-Manuel Neuer era are taking on increasingly concrete form. While numerous high-profile goalkeepers have recently been linked to the German record champions, Munich’s overall strategy appears to be already set.
Jonas Urbig is set to become the clear-cut No. 1 once the Neuer era comes to an end. The 23-year-old has been specifically groomed for this role since his move to Munich and has earned the trust of club officials with his performances so far.
Consequently, the club is apparently not looking for another goalkeeper to challenge Urbig for the starting spot. Rather, Bayern wants to sign an experienced backup who accepts his role and is comfortable with making only a few appearances during the season.
Bayern Has a Clear Profile for Urbig’s Backup
As reported by *kicker*, the Munich club has already drawn up a specific profile of requirements. The new goalkeeper should bring experience to the table but, at the same time, not command a high transfer fee. In addition, club officials place great emphasis on soccering qualities.
Under Vincent Kompany, playing the ball out of the back is particularly important. The future replacement for Neuer should therefore not only excel between the posts but also be able to confidently participate in Munich’s build-up play.
According to *kicker*, there have been no concrete talks with potential candidates yet. Internally, however, several names are already being discussed.
The candidates reportedly include Finn Dahmen of FC Augsburg, Oliver Baumann, and Bernd Leno. All three bring a wealth of experience and could, in principle, fit the desired profile.
Leno, Baumann, and Dahmen are under consideration

Dahmen and Leno, in particular, have recently been linked with FC Bayern. The 28-year-old Dahmen would be the significantly younger option compared to the two veterans. Leno, on the other hand, has years of experience at the highest level and is reportedly open in principle to a possible move to Bayern.
With Baumann, another experienced Bundesliga goalkeeper has now entered Munich’s considerations. The 36-year-old has been familiar with the Bundesliga for many years and would also bring a wealth of experience to the table.
Most recently, however, even more prominent names have been circulating around Säbener Straße. In addition to Leno, Jordan Pickford and Manchester City star Gianluigi Donnarumma, among others, were mentioned as possible candidates.
The latest report from *kicker*, however, suggests that Bayern prefers a different approach. Urbig is not expected to compete with another top international goalkeeper for the starting spot, but rather to step in as the clear number one to succeed Neuer.
