FC Bayern ended the international break on a high note. Following their spectacular 7-0 victory over Union Berlin, club soccer will be on hold for the Munich team for several weeks. While many players are heading off to join their national teams, Max Eberl also plans to take this opportunity to unwind for a few days.
However, the sporting director isn’t taking a complete break. First up on Sunday is the German record champions’ traditional visit to Oktoberfest. The team, coaches, and club officials are expected to gather together at Munich’s Theresienwiese.
Only after that does Eberl plan to take a short break. Following an intense few weeks surrounding the start of the season, the unusually long international break offers a rare opportunity to do so.
Eberl plans to unwind after Oktoberfest
For the 52-year-old, the past few weeks have been eventful not only on the sports front. His personal future at FC Bayern has also been definitively settled. Eberl extended his contract with the record champions early, through 2029.
This means the sporting director can now once again focus entirely on the team’s on-field development. However, following the successful start to the season and the convincing victory over Union, he now has the chance to take a step back from day-to-day business.
The break comes at an opportune time. With the end of the transfer window, one of the most labor-intensive tasks for Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund is wrapped up for now. At the same time, Vincent Kompany’s team went into the break in impressive form with a 7-0 victory over Union.
For Eberl, this means that after their group outing to the Oktoberfest, soccer can take a back seat for a few days.
Díaz is also getting a break
Eberl isn’t the only one using the coming days to relax. Luis Díaz is also getting a breather. The Colombian won’t be playing for his national team during the first round of international matches.
Colombia’s national team coach, Néstor Lorenzo, had previously spoken with the Bayern player and advised him to take a break due to his heavy workload. Díaz is expected to use the free time to recover physically and then get back to his best form.
For many of his Bayern teammates, however, the schedule looks different. A large portion of the squad is on the road with their respective national teams and will play several international matches in the coming weeks.
At FC Bayern itself, this means a brief period of calm. After visiting the Oktoberfest, Eberl will also be able to catch his breath for a few days before the next intense weeks begin for the record champions.
