Jonas Urbig: He had to make one save in the first half, but Campbell’s goal was disallowed due to an offside call in the build-up. Urbig was powerless to stop the stunning goal by former Bayern player Krattenmacher into the top corner. Otherwise, the young goalkeeper had no opportunities to prove himself. Grade: 3.
Josip Stanisic: Played a solid game from the start. In addition to his clean defensive work, Stanisic repeatedly got involved well going forward. This was also the case before Kane’s 2–1 goal, which he helped set up. Grade: 2.
Dayot Upamecano: Won his duels and didn’t make any mistakes. Solid performance. Grade: 3.
Minjae Kim: Defended cleanly and without errors. Even made occasional forays forward. A decent performance from the South Korean. Grade: 3.
Nathaniel Brown: Tested Elversberg goalkeeper Kristof with a shot from a relatively tight angle—the chance wasn’t all that dangerous. Brown was quite active on the left flank alongside Saibari. However, nothing really came of it. Grade: 3.
Aleksandar Pavlovic: Had Bayern’s first chance, but sent a long-range shot well over the bar. Was very present in Bayern’s midfield and had several good plays—including on the offensive end. His assist on Kane’s goal to make it 2–1 was particularly strong. Grade: 2.
Tom Bischof: Played flawlessly in central midfield as Kimmich’s replacement but had little impact on Bayern’s play. After a little over an hour, Bischof’s time on the field came to an end, and veteran Kimmich took his place again. Grade: 3.
Lennart Karl: Worked hard down Munich’s right flank. He tried a long-range shot once, but Elversberg goalkeeper Kristof made the save with ease. Karl then coolly slotted home a cross from Saibari to make it 1–0 for the visitors. Because of his “finger-to-mouth” celebration, he was repeatedly booed by the Elversberg fans afterward. Karl was lively and covered a lot of ground. A solid performance from the youngster. Grade: 2.
Michael Olise: Played in his favorite position in central midfield. As the number 10, Olise worked hard but was far from dangerous. In the second half, the Frenchman got a shot off, but an Elversberg player cleared it off the line. Immediately afterward, Olise chipped the ball over the home team’s goalkeeper, but it hit the crossbar. Overall, Olise wasn’t as lively as in recent games. Grade: 3.
Ismael Saibari: Came in from the left wing because Olise was playing as the number 10. The new signing set up Bayern’s 1-0 goal by Karl with a fine assist: After a fancy step-over, Saibari crossed the ball in from the wing; Kane couldn’t reach it, but Karl finished with ease to give FCB the lead. Saibari was hard-working in his pressing and didn’t shy away from any challenges. The 50-million-man showed flashes of his class a few times. Rating: 2.
Harry Kane: Tried a left-footed shot early in the second half, but it went wide. He scored shortly after, but Kane was offside following a pass from Olise. Then the striker finally had a reason to celebrate: After a pass from Pavlovic, Kane blasted the ball precisely into the right corner—that wasn’t an easy one! Grade: 2.
Substitutes:
Jamal Musiala (65’ for Karl): Didn’t create any dangerous chances after coming on, but played decently. Grade: 3.
Luis Diaz (65′ for Saibari): Wasted the next big chance right after coming on—with a backheel! Diaz had no further “highlights” after that. Grade: 4.
Joshua Kimmich (65′ for Bischof): Played out the match in the center with seasoned composure. Took one dangerous shot, but Kristof saved the deflected ball. Grade: 3.
Alphonso Davies (65′ for Brown): Was solid on the left side of defense and also got involved in the attack on several occasions. Grade: 3.
