Michael Olise has quickly become one of the most valuable players on FC Bayern’s roster. Consequently, the Munich club is very interested in extending the Frenchman’s contract—which runs through 2029—for the long term. This could lead to an unusual solution.
Olise has been linked with top European clubs for quite some time now. In addition to Real Madrid, Liverpool FC is said to have a particular interest in the 24-year-old. However, Bayern is determined to keep its star forward.
As BILD soccer editorChristian Falk reports, a release clause could be included in the new contract as part of a potential contract extension. However, this clause would involve financial terms that would make a transfer feasible for only a handful of clubs.
According to reports, the figures in question range between 150 and 250 million euros. “I can say, however, that any release clause in the winger’s contract will be very, very high. Should a club activate it, Bayern would have a lot of money at its disposal to sign a replacement,” Falk explained.
Bayern doesn’t want to find itself under pressure in 2027
In principle, the Munich club is under no immediate pressure to act. Olise’s current contract runs through the summer of 2029. Nevertheless, the situation could become significantly more complicated at the latest one year before then.
If no agreement on an extension has been reached by the summer of 2027, Olise would slowly be approaching the penultimate year of his contract. This could potentially weaken Bayern’s negotiating position down the road.
An early contract extension would prevent this scenario. At the same time, an extremely high buyout clause could serve as a compromise between both sides. Olise would still have the option to leave Munich at some point, while Bayern would be financially protected to the fullest extent possible in the event of such a transfer.
The record champions’ preferred solution remains, in any case, for him to stay long-term. According to the report, Olise feels at home in Munich and did not push for a transfer during the last transfer window. Financially, Bayern still has room to offer the Frenchman a significant pay raise. His current salary is reportedly lower than that of top earners such as Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala.
Liverpool remains a factor in the Olise saga
The situation at Liverpool FC is particularly interesting. The Reds made a high-profile addition this summer with Bradley Barcola. However, the Frenchman is primarily a left winger. Liverpool already has other options in that position with Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha.
On the right side, however, there may still be a need for reinforcements. That’s precisely why Olise is likely to remain an attractive prospect for Liverpool going forward.
The Barcola transfer also has implications for Bayern Munich. The former PSG player had previously been touted as a potential replacement for Olise. Following his move to Liverpool, this option is no longer available for the time being.
This makes it all the more important for Munich to secure planning certainty regarding Olise at an early stage. A sale is not currently on the table. However, should the Frenchman decide to seek a new challenge at some point, Bayern apparently wants to be in a comfortable position, at least financially.
A buyout clause of up to 250 million euros would provide significant security—and at the same time serve as a clear price tag for Liverpool and all other interested parties.
