The Ballon d’Or will be awarded in October, and all the nominees will be announced soon. It’s considered a foregone conclusion that Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich striker, will appear on that list.
It remains unclear, however, whether the Bayern striker will ultimately win the award. Kane is among the top contenders, but the competition is fierce.
In any case, FC Bayern is currently campaigning heavily for the English striker. Among others, Max Eberl recently named Kane the clear favorite and even said there was no question that he should win.
Kane Is a Top Contender, According to Makaay
If Roy Makaay, the former Bayern Munich striker, has his way, one of his successors in the record champion’s jersey at least has a very good chance. Speaking to the website bulinews, Makaay said he believes the Bayern star is capable of anything.

The Dutchman views Bayern’s support as entirely positive. “I think it’s great that his club is backing him in this. I’ve never heard Kane himself talk about it so passionately,” Makaay explained.
“If he wins it, he deserves it because he’s had a great season, but in soccer, you never know. Personal taste also plays a role in the Ballon d’Or. I think there are several players in the running, but Kane is one of the top contenders,” the 51-year-old former Dutch international continued.
Makaay is particularly impressed by the Englishman’s goal-scoring rate. “When you score as many goals for your club and your country as he does, it’s only natural that you’re considered one of the candidates. I’d be very happy if he won, and if he does win, he’d deserve it, but we won’t know until October,” was Makaay’s matter-of-fact conclusion. So he, Kane, and the fans and officials at FC Bayern will have to be patient for a while longer.
