Michael Olise has long been one of FC Bayern’s most important players. Since his move to Munich, the French national team player has developed rapidly and is now one of the absolute key players for the German record champions. Bayern would love to see the 24-year-old remain at Säbener Straße for many more years.
However, it remains to be seen whether Olise himself plans to spend his entire playing career in Munich. As early as this summer, there was speculation about a possible move to Real Madrid. According to information from FussballTransfers, the Frenchman could certainly have imagined a transfer to Los Blancos.
However, FC Bayern made it clear early on that selling their attacking star is out of the question. Olise still has a long-term contract through 2029 and is expected to continue playing a central role in Vincent Kompany’s team in the future.
Olise’s inner circle speaks of “new challenges”
New statements from France are now catching people’s attention, however. As L’Équipe reports, Olise feels very much at home in Munich. At the same time, taking another major career step in the long term does appear to be part of his considerations.
“He feels very comfortable in Munich. Of course, in the long run, it makes sense for him to take on new challenges. But right now, everything is going well. He simply wants to keep improving and, above all, win everything with FC Bayern this season,” the French sports newspaper quotes a source close to the Bayern star as saying.
So there’s certainly no talk of concrete plans to leave at the moment. Rather, Olise’s focus is entirely on the current season. Nevertheless, the mention of possible “new challenges” in particular is likely to be noted closely by Bayern’s management.
The Munich club has recently made it clear on several occasions just how important Olise is to their future plans. This is another reason why the record champions are already considering the possibility of extending his contract—which runs through 2029 anyway—ahead of schedule.
Bayern holds the upper hand with Olise
However, there is no immediate pressure for FC Bayern to act. Olise’s current contract still has just under three years remaining and does not include a buyout clause. An interested club could therefore not sign the Frenchman against Munich’s will.
Consequently, the record champions’ asking price is likely to be very high. According to the report, at least 200 million euros would likely be required for Bayern to even consider a sale.
For the Munich club, however, the priority will be to convince Olise of a long-term future at FCB. The Frenchman has developed into a world-class player in Munich and is expected to shape the face of Bayern in the coming years alongside players like Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane.
At least in the short term, there is no cause for concern: Olise feels at home in Munich and has big goals with FC Bayern. However, statements from those close to him also suggest that staying until the end of his contract in 2029 is by no means a foregone conclusion.
