There is widespread discontent among FC Bayern fans surrounding the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart. Bayern fans had prepared an elaborate choreographed display for the first home game of the new season. However, it was canceled shortly before the match.
The reason appears to be a large banner that was to be the centerpiece of the planned display. As reported by BILD, the banner was so large that the Munich District Administrative Office (KVR) did not grant permission for it.
According to the report, the problem lies primarily in the size of the banner. When fully unfurled, the planned display would apparently have violated applicable safety regulations.
These regulations include, among other things, ensuring clear escape routes and compliance with fire safety requirements. The KVR is said to have therefore offered Bayern fans the option of modifying the banner to comply with the applicable safety regulations.
However, the fans did not accept this offer.
Choreography completely canceled
Instead of modifying the planned display accordingly, the fans decided to cancel the entire choreography. As a result, just in time for the Bundesliga opener, a display that many fans had apparently already prepared for has fallen through.
For Bayern fans, the decision is understandably frustrating. The first home game of a new season, in particular, traditionally provides a special setting for elaborate choreographies and displays in the Südkurve.
The fans apparently wanted to show Vincent Kompany’s team some special support even before kickoff. That won’t happen now.
As a result, Bayern fans will have to forgo their planned large-scale choreography for the Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart. The frustration among the fans is likely to be considerable—especially since the display had already been prepared and has now been completely canceled at the last minute.
