Max Eberl’s contract extension with FC Bayern is drawing ever closer. The supervisory board of the German record champion will meet next week to decide on the future of the sporting director. Eberl himself continues to remain tight-lipped ahead of the important meeting.
For several days now, all signs have pointed to Max Eberl staying with FC Bayern for the long term. The 52-year-old’s contract, which currently runs through 2027, is set to be extended early.
According to reports, the executive committee has already given the green light for continued cooperation. The supervisory board is now expected to grant final approval.
In an interview with SAT.1, Eberl was once again asked about his future. However, the Bayern boss did not want to preempt the decision. “The supervisory board is meeting next week. I’ve always said, ‘I do my job. I try to take FC Bayern to where FC Bayern sees itself going,’” explained the sporting director.
“Then we’ll see.”
According to the 52-year-old, his daily work remains his top priority. At the same time, he made it clear that the decision now lies with the record champions’ leadership.
“I try to support FC Bayern as best I can through my work and my expertise. And if the club is satisfied with that, then we’ll see what the supervisory board decides next week,” said Eberl.
It is currently considered extremely unlikely that the decision will be negative. Recently, several media outlets reported that Eberl is set to receive a new contract through 2029. This would extend his current contract by two years.
The groundwork for this is reportedly already in place. According to reports, Eberl was informed even before his trip to Asia that the club, in principle, would like to continue working with him.
Bayern executives are satisfied with Eberl’s work
The recent summer transfer window, in particular, is said to have strengthened Eberl’s position within the club. Unlike in the summer of 2025, the Munich-based club was able to sign its key new players early on.
With Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, the club secured two high-caliber reinforcements. In addition, the record champions signed Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, a promising young player for central midfield.
There has also been recent progress on the sales front. At the same time, Eberl is highly credited with the signing of Vincent Kompany. Under the Belgian, FC Bayern has returned to the path of success on the field.
Eberl himself, however, does not want to preempt the decision. By the time of the upcoming supervisory board meeting at the latest, it should be clear whether the sporting director will indeed remain with FC Bayern through 2029.
