Last season, Harry Kane already won the double with FC Bayern. In the Champions League, however, the Munich team was denied the ultimate triumph. That’s set to change in the new season. The top English striker has his sights firmly set on the Champions League.
FC Bayern has set a clear goal for the upcoming season: to bring the Champions League trophy back to Munich. After Vincent Kompany and Manuel Neuer recently spoke about the goal of winning the Champions League title, Harry Kane has now weighed in as well.
In an interview with FourFourTwo, Kane made it clear that the international competition holds special significance for him and his teammates. At the same time, the 33-year-old knows how difficult the road to the title will be.
“Looking ahead, the Champions League is a major goal for us. We’ll be facing the best teams in Europe there, and PSG is the two-time defending champion. It’s going to be really tough,” Kane explained.
Kane wants to “go one step further”
In the last Champions League season, Bayern didn’t bow out until the semifinals. Their run ended against Paris Saint-Germain after two intense matchups.
Kane sees this as exactly the motivation he needs for the upcoming season. The forward wants to use the experience from last season to take the next step with Bayern. In addition to PSG, he considers Arsenal and Real Madrid, among others, to be major competitors.
“Arsenal reached the final. Real Madrid always does. There are so many top teams you have to beat to win the Champions League. I’m looking forward to this challenge. Last year, we were extremely close to reaching the final. This year, we have to do everything we can to go one step further,” said the striker.
Big personal goals
In addition to his goals with the team, Kane has also set big personal goals for the upcoming season and is determined to surpass his goal tally once again.
„That’s the goal. You know me—I always want to improve. 73 is such an impressive number, and it will certainly be hard to top. But with the team I have around me and the way I’m feeling mentally and physically right now, there’s no reason why I can’t reach that level again,” explained the 33-year-old.
