Following their 2-1 victory over Jeju SK, FC Bayern now faces its toughest test yet of the summer preseason. In just under an hour, Vincent Kompany’s team will take on top English club Aston Villa.
The Premier League club, led by coach Unai Emery, won the Europa League last season and is now among England’s top teams. For Bayern, this match is therefore an important opportunity to gauge their form before returning to action in the Telekom Cup against RB Leipzig and then the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund.
Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
Neuer returns to goal for Bayern

Kompany continues to have to improvise with his lineup. Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Dayot Upamecano are still on vacation following the World Cup. Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Serge Gnabry, Ismael Saibari, and Lennart Karl are out with injuries and are working on their comebacks in Munich.
Manuel Neuer will start in goal. Kompany had already announced this at the press conference.
In defense, Sacha Boey, Minjae Kim, Jonathan Tah, and Konrad Laimer will start.
In midfield, Aleks Pavlovic and Tom Bischof will start as the defensive midfield duo. Brown, Cardozo, and Binder will occupy the more attacking positions.
Arjion Ibrahimovic starts as the center forward.
