FC Bayern can look forward to some unexpected transfer revenue. Thanks to Nestory Irankunda’s move from Watford to Sporting Lisbon, the Munich club will receive several million euros—even though the Australian left the club a year ago.
Nestory Irankunda’s transfer to Portugal is complete. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, Watford FC and Sporting Lisbon have agreed on a deal for the 20-year-old attacking player.
According to the report, the top Portuguese club will initially pay a base transfer fee of 18 million euros. Performance-based bonus payments could cause the total amount to rise even further in the coming years.
Bayern stands to profit thanks to a clever clause
FC Bayern also plays an important role in the deal and has given its approval for the transfer. When Irankunda moved to Watford in the summer of 2025, the Munich club secured a share of any future transfer fee.
This is reported to amount to 40 percent of the transfer proceeds. Based on the guaranteed transfer fee of 18 million euros, the German record champions will thus receive 7.2 million euros.

Should additional bonus payments become due later, Bayern’s share could also increase accordingly.
Irankunda joined FC Bayern from Australia in early 2024 and was initially developed at the academy. However, he failed to make a definitive breakthrough with the first team, which is why the Munich club decided to sell him to England last summer.
The resale clause negotiated at the time is now proving to be extremely valuable. Without having to be active on the transfer market themselves, FC Bayern is taking in several million euros.
The additional revenue comes at a good time for the Munich club during the current transfer window. Following the signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, club officials are continuing to work on improving the transfer balance. Sales and proceeds from resale shares play an important role in this effort.
