FC Bayern is experiencing an unprecedented rush for tickets ahead of the start of the new season. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen spoke of a level of demand that the record champion had not seen even after winning the Champions League. The numbers for the Bundesliga classic against Borussia Dortmund, in particular, highlight the current hype surrounding the Munich team.
On the field, FC Bayern has exceeded expectations by winning the double and having an impressive Bundesliga season. The fans’ enthusiasm is now also reflected in ticket demand.
At a press event in Munich, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen provided insight into the current figures—and they are extraordinary.
“The number of ticket requests we’re currently receiving is absolutely incredible,” Dreesen explained.
Demand for the Bundesliga home game against Borussia Dortmund is particularly impressive. According to the 58-year-old, the club received around 350,000 ticket requests for that match. By way of comparison: The Allianz Arena currently seats around 75,000 spectators. Mathematically speaking, the Munich club could almost completely sell out its stadium five times over for this match.
But even the match with the lowest demand is at an extraordinary level. According to Dreesen, 135,000 ticket requests were still received for that game. However, the CEO did not want to reveal which opponent is on the schedule.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this before.”
Even after many years with FC Bayern, Dreesen is surprised by this development. “This is completely crazy. In the 14 years I’ve been here, I’ve never experienced anything like this,” said the CEO.
Particularly noteworthy: Even after winning the Champions League, interest in tickets wasn’t as high as it is now.
Dreesen is convinced that FC Bayern’s enormous appeal has long since extended far beyond Munich. “We could fill every stadium in the country with our own fans, even for away games. That’s not arrogance—it’s simply a fact.”
The numbers impressively underscore the current popularity of Germany’s record champion. Following last season’s success and the targeted signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, anticipation for the new season is greater than ever. For many fans, however, it’s likely to be difficult to get tickets at all. Even the initial sales figures show that demand far exceeds supply at the Allianz Arena.
