While some World Cup players and injured key players are sitting out the Audi Summer Tour, several young players at FC Bayern are stepping into the spotlight. Coach Vincent Kompany is taking six academy talents with him to Asia—giving them the chance to prove themselves on the international stage and earn a spot on the first team.
Yesterday, Saturday, the German record champions set off for the Audi Summer Tour to South Korea and Hong Kong. In addition to marketing events and public training sessions, the Munich team also has two friendly matches on the schedule. First, on August 4, FC Bayern will face its Korean Red&Gold partner club, Jeju SK FC, followed by a match against Europa League champion Aston Villa on August 7.
For several youth players, the trip is far more than just a preseason tour. They’ll have the opportunity to prove themselves in direct competition with the pros and earn further points with Vincent Kompany.
Six Campus talents will get their chance
With Felipe Chavez, Maycon Cardozo, Guido Della Rovere, Filip Pavic, Bastian Assomo, and Tim Binder, six players from the Bayern Campus have been named to the roster for the trip to Asia.
Felipe Chavez, in particular, has long been considered one of the greatest prospects in Munich’s youth academy. The attacking midfielder has recently impressed with strong performances and has already been allowed to train with the first team on several occasions.
Maycon Cardozo has also made an excellent impression in recent weeks. The 17-year-old Brazilian was recently singled out by Vincent Kompany for his attitude and work ethic and also impressed in the friendly matches. Guido Della Rovere is also considered a promising offensive talent, while center back Filip Pavic has continued to make steady progress in recent months.
Rounding out the sextet are Bastian Assomo and Tim Binder. Assomo, in particular, has recently drawn attention to himself and scored his first goal for the first team in the 15-0 friendly win against FC Rottach-Egern.
Kompany continues to rely on the Bayern Campus
All six youth players have been an integral part of the first-team squad since the start of preseason and have already seen action in the friendly matches against SV Wehen Wiesbaden and FC Rottach-Egern.
The selection for the Asian tour once again underscores Vincent Kompany’s approach, as he is committed to providing development opportunities for the club’s own young talents. Several Campus players already made their senior debuts last season, and the club intends to consistently continue down this path.
