FC Bayern’s preseason is once again a very special one. Since a major tournament took place this summer, the FCB players who participated in the World Cup will be joining the team at different times. This is, of course, an opportunity for young talent.
For the young players in the ranks of the record champions, the bottom line is this: If they’re training with the pros or have the chance to make a case for themselves in one of the preseason friendlies, they need to make the most of it.
As a reminder: During preseason for the past season, a certain Lennart Karl really caught everyone’s attention. And he not only made his breakthrough with the first team but also earned a spot on the national team.
But which players have the potential to take a big step forward during this preseason—or this season in general—and prove themselves?
Next step for Daiber and company?
There are a few players who already made occasional appearances with the pros last season. David Santos Daiber, who is making great progress after his injury and will soon be an option again, definitely falls into this category. He could benefit from the rather thin roster in defensive midfield. Daiber is technically skilled and has already made an impression with the first team.
Felipe Chavez, most recently on loan to 1. FC Köln, has already made his debut with the first team, as have Wisdom Mike and Maycon Cardozo. While Cardozo and Mike, like Daiber, are coming off injuries and may still need some time, Chavez—who didn’t play a major role in Cologne—could benefit precisely from this situation.
He plays in central midfield and has the chance to prove to Vincent Kompany that he can play a role in the first-team squad, at least on an occasional basis. For some of the highly touted talents from Bayern’s youth academy, the preseason could have a decisive influence on whether or not the player is sent out on loan.
Which Bayern talents are still in the spotlight
However, there are still a number of other players to watch in the new season. In particular, a young duo in central defense: Filip Pavic (16) and Cassiano Kiala (17). Both enjoy an excellent reputation at the record-holding champions; they’re even already being touted as the duo of the future.
Erblin Osmani also has reason to be hopeful. The 17-year-old, who plays in central midfield, is equally highly regarded. He is set to be gradually brought up to the level of the pros. His qualities are certainly versatile, and he has been playing for the record champions for quite some time.
Meanwhile, Bastian Assomo could be a hidden gem. The 16-year-old forward is already impressing with his physicality and his good movement, especially in the penalty area. If attacking players like Olise, Kane, or Diaz are still missing during preseason, Assomo could really get his chance.
