It has now been a year since Thomas Müller left FC Bayern Munich. After his contract expired, the attacking player moved to MLS, where he plays for Vancouver. He recently spoke about a special farewell gift.
As part of his role as an analyst for Magenta TV covering the 2026 World Cup in North America, Müller revealed that when he left Bayern, one of his teammates honored him with a very special gesture.
Specifically, Laura Wontorra asked Müller if he was jealous of the players on the new world champion team, who are receiving a championship ring for the first time.
In U.S. sports like American football, this has been common practice for quite some time, but not at a World Cup.
Müller Reveals Bayern Teammates’ Surprise
The former Bayern player, however, answered Wontorra’s question with a clear “no.” He then went on to explain what kind of farewell gift he had received.
“I received a farewell gift from FC Bayern—just between us—from Serge Gnabry and Jo Kimmich. And it’s a championship ring with personal engravings on it,” said Müller.
When Wontorra asked if it was a ring with diamonds, the Bayern icon replied with a wink: “No, it doesn’t matter what it’s worth—the main thing is that it’s expensive.”
Müller left FC Bayern in 2025 after the Club World Cup, having joined the record champion’s youth academy from TSV Pähl in 2000 and been promoted to the first team in 2009. At FCB, he won numerous titles, including two UEFA Champions League trophies, and became a national team player, also winning the 2014 World Cup with the German national team.
He was always highly regarded in Munich, not only by the fans but quite obviously also by his teammates, who presented him with an unforgettable gift.
