Good news from Säbener Straße: Lennart Karl has reached the next milestone on his road to recovery. One month after his injury, the Bayern prospect returned to the training field for the first time.
Lennart Karl’s rehabilitation continues to go according to plan. As FC Bayern announced on Wednesday, the 18-year-old completed his first lap around the training grounds on Säbener Straße since suffering a torn muscle in his left thigh.
Karl sustained the injury during a German national team training session immediately before the World Cup and had to put his dream of playing in the tournament on hold at the last minute. Since then, the attacking player has been working intensively toward his comeback.
Karl is to be brought back gradually
His first run on the field marks significant progress, though it will still be some time before he returns to team training. In the coming weeks, FC Bayern will carefully continue the young attacking talent’s individualized rehabilitation program. The goal is for Karl to rejoin Vincent Kompany’s training sessions during preseason.
The youngster himself recently emphasized that he doesn’t want to rush anything: “It will still be a while before I can join the sessions with the guys. Right now, the most important thing is not to rush anything.”
This cautious approach is no coincidence. Immediately after his injury, FC Bayern had announced that they did not want to take any risks with Karl. The 18-year-old is considered one of the greatest talents at the academy and is expected to play an important long-term role with the first team following his breakthrough.
With his return to the training field, the next important step has now been taken. If his rehab continues without setbacks, Karl should be able to gradually increase his workload in the coming weeks and ease back into team training step by step.
