Harry Kane continues to make headlines at the World Cup. Following his stellar performance against Mexico, the Bayern Munich forward has now even received praise from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Harry Kane remains one of the standout players of the World Cup. In England’s dramatic 3-2 victory over co-host Mexico, the Bayern star once again proved to be the match-winner.
The 32-year-old converted the decisive penalty kick, leading the Three Lions into the quarterfinals. His performance did not go unnoticed off the soccer field either.
Trump raves about Kane
After the match, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the English national team player on his platform Truth Social, using strong words. “Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player!!!” Trump wrote.
For Kane, this is yet another accolade in what has already been an outstanding season. Across all competitions, the forward has now tallied 81 goal contributions in 63 official matches for Bayern Munich and the English national team.
However, the match against Mexico didn’t just yield positive headlines for Kane. The Bayern striker also conceded a penalty to the opposition during the game.
In doing so, he made World Cup history: Since records began in 1966, Kane is the first player to both score a penalty kick and concede one in the same World Cup match.
Tuchel takes a jab at Kane
England’s national team coach Thomas Tuchel then provided a moment of humor. When asked about the controversial lifting of a red-card suspension for U.S. striker Folarin Balogun, Tuchel was asked if Kane could ask his new prominent admirer, Donald Trump, to also lift the suspension against Jarell Quansah.
“Maybe,” Tuchel replied with a smile.
Once again, however, the spotlight was on Harry Kane. The Bayern star is impressively cementing his exceptional status at the World Cup—and has even won over the President of the United States.
