Harry Kane still has a chance to win the World Cup with the English national team. The forward is coming off a brilliant season with FC Bayern and is continuing that form in the Three Lions’ jersey.
It’s no wonder that it’s not just England fans who are raving about him. Experts also agree that the Bayern star is currently one of the best players in the world.
That’s why he also has a shot at winning the Ballon d’Or. While he faces stiff competition from players like Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise, Kane has plenty of arguments in his favor, having scored more than 70 goals since the start of the 2025–26 season.
In England, there is currently discussion about bestowing a very special honor upon him.
Will Kane be knighted?
The Liberal Democrats have now submitted a motion to have Kane knighted. Leading the effort is MP Layla Moran, who has already called on other MPs from various parties to support this motion.
The party “recognizes the achievements” of Kane, who has now scored more goals in World Cups than legends like Pelé, and highlights that the Bayern Munich forward recently kept England’s title hopes alive with his two goals against the Congo.
The forward has already scored five goals in four matches so far in this tournament. It remains unclear, however, how quickly a decision will be made on the motion.
In general, it’s nothing new for English soccer players to be knighted. It began with the dribbling maestro Sir Stanley Matthews in 1965.
Other well-known names include Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Geoff Hurst, and Sir David Beckham, who was the last English soccer player to be knighted. That was in 2025.
