Vincent Kompany isn’t just well-liked at FC Bayern—he’s downright celebrated there. Since he moved from Burnley to the record champions and took over as head coach, a lot has changed in Munich.
Even though he left the Clarets at the time and was relegated with Burnley, he still enjoys a very good reputation there. And for good reason: it wasn’t that Kompany wasn’t up to the task; the roster simply wasn’t strong enough to stay in the league.
Now it’s coming to light that the Belgian still wields significant influence over his former team, which—after a brief stint in the top flight—has since been relegated back to the Championship.

Interestingly, it became clear quite early on that Burnley would likely be relegated to the second division. As a result, the club has spent the past few months evaluating options and exploring candidates for the head coaching position. Among them was Steven Gerrard, the former Rangers manager.
But now the choice has fallen on former Welsh national team player Craig Bellamy, who had previously been linked to the job but turned it down. That’s not unusual in itself. However, as TEAMTalk reported, Bayern coach Kompany played a part in the decision. The appointment has not yet been officially announced, but the decision has been made internally.
Kompany himself is said to have played a role behind the scenes. According to sources, the current coach of FC Bayern Munich pointed out to Burnley that Bellamy would be an excellent choice and voiced his support for his former assistant.
The two worked very well together at the Clarets, building a strong relationship based on trust. This created a special bond. The Belgian is convinced that his former assistant possesses all the necessary qualities to succeed as a club coach.
Interestingly, when Bayern Munich finally settled on Kompany after much hesitation, they sought the opinion of Pep Guardiola, who had worked with the former defender for a long time. And his assessment—that the Belgian had what it takes—turned out to be spot on.
