FC Barcelona could soon be relying on a well-known figure from Munich: according to the latest reports, Hansi Flick wants to bring a former companion to Spain
Spanish radio station Cadena SER reports that Holger Broich is on the verge of a move to FC Barcelona, with the long-time Bayern employee set to take over as head of the Catalan club’s fitness department for the new season
Flick himself is apparently playing a decisive role in this, with the Barça coach reportedly lobbying internally for the 51-year-old’s appointment. The department is currently still headed by Julio Tous, who the report claims will take on another role at the club in the future
The connection between Flick and Broich goes back many years. While Flick coached FC Bayern between 2019 and 2021, Broich worked closely with the current Barcelona coach as scientific director and head of fitness
During this time, Munich enjoyed its most successful period in the club’s recent history. Under Flick, FC Bayern not only won the Champions League, but also the league title, DFB Cup, German Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup – the historic six-tuple
At the time, Broich was considered an important part of the coaching team and enjoyed an excellent internal reputation

The sports scientist had been working at Säbener Straße since 2014 and remained with the record champions even after Flick’s departure. However, he unexpectedly parted ways in the summer of 2024

Broich publicly defended his work and also received backing from former Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes, who expressly praised the fitness expert
After leaving FC Bayern, Broich initially retired from professional soccer and moved to the Schwarz Group in Neckarsulm, where he took on a management position in the Health and Performance division in October 2024
