FC Bayern is in danger of losing a central figure in the background – and this is apparently causing internal unrest. According to media reports, Kathleen Krüger is on the verge of moving to Hamburger SV, where she is to take on the role of Head of Sport. A move that has not met with universal approval at Säbener Straße
Krüger has been one of the most important organizational figures at the German record champions for years. The 40-year-old was team manager of the professionals for a long time and is currently responsible for central team processes as head of organization and infrastructure. She is held in high regard internally – which makes her imminent departure all the more surprising
As the Hamburger Abendblatt reports, „not everyone in Munich is happy“ about this move. Background: Krüger was apparently on the verge of another career move within the club. The plan was to promote her to Director of Professional Football – a key role in sporting management
HSV offers a bigger stage
However, HSV then intervened. The Hanseatic club was able to convince Krüger with an even more attractive offer and enticed her with the position of Chief Sports Officer. This would put her in a position where she would be much more in the public eye for the first time and could play a key role in shaping strategic decisions
Remarkably, HSV apparently does not have to pay a transfer fee for the move. Krüger has an open-ended contract with FC Bayern with a regular notice period – a detail that makes her departure even more painful for the Munich club
New role with clear distribution of tasks

In Hamburg, Krüger will take on a central role in the sporting direction in future. She will be involved in strategic squad planning, while the operational implementation of transfers will remain the responsibility of sporting director Claus Costa. The responsibilities of CFO Eric Huwer will also remain untouched
The transfer is already considered to be at an advanced stage, with a majority of the HSV supervisory board having previously voted in favor of Krüger – and thus decided against other prominent candidates
For FC Bayern, the possible departure is more than just a change of personnel. It shows that even in the highly professional environment of the record champions, important figures cannot be kept as a matter of course – especially when external opportunities arise at the highest level
For HSV, on the other hand, the signing would be a real coup. Krüger would not only bring professional expertise, but also valuable experience from one of the most successful clubs in Europe.
