Manuel Neuer could be back in the Bayern goal sooner than expected. Max Eberl raised hopes of a quick return after the win against Frankfurt. There are also signs of a positive development for Konrad Laimer.
After the 3-2 win against Eintracht Frankfurt, Max Eberl also commented on the personnel situation at the record champions away from the Davies shock and surprised with a glimmer of hope. „It is not out of the question“ that Manuel Neuer and Konrad Laimer will be fit in time for the Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund next week, explained the sporting director. This means that a quick comeback for the captain is within reach.
Just a week ago, the situation had seemed much more serious. After the away win in Bremen, there was initially talk of a precautionary measure before the club clarified the situation a little later. The official statement read: „FC Bayern Munich will have to do without its captain for the time being: Manuel Neuer suffered a fibre tear in his left calf during yesterday’s Bundesliga away game against SV Werder Bremen (3-0). This was the result of a thorough examination by FC Bayern’s medical department.“
Laimer also set for a quick return?

It was therefore clear that the 39-year-old would be out of action for the time being. The games against Frankfurt and Dortmund were hardly considered realistic, especially as, according to BILD, a break of at least three weeks was expected. Internally, Jonas Urbig took over in goal during this phase, the 22-year-old collected more minutes of action and stood in confidently for the designated number one both in Bremen and against Frankfurt.
Eberl’s statement after the Frankfurt game at least leaves open the possibility that Neuer will return earlier than predicted and be able to play in the top match against Dortmund.
Konrad Laimer could also return in time. The 28-year-old had recently been absent due to complaints that were not further defined. He was not available against Frankfurt. As FC Bayern later reported, it is said to have been a precautionary measure after the right-back missed the final training session.
