The DFB Cup quarter-final between FC Bayern and RB Leipzig is not only a special occasion in sporting terms, but a day-long public transport strike in Munich has forced everyone involved to make adjustments – including Vincent Kompany’s team
The Bayern coach announced ahead of Wednesday evening’s match that the team bus would be making its way to the Allianz Arena earlier than usual. „We will certainly be driving to the stadium earlier,“ explained Kompany at the press conference on Tuesday. The measure was a direct response to the tense traffic situation around the stadium
Kompany with a clear message to the fans
For the Belgian, the focus is on one thing above all: the supporters. „The most important thing, of course, is that everyone gets to the game healthy and well,“ said Kompany with a view to the expected 75,000 spectators. The Bayern coach showed understanding for the additional effort that many fans have to make – and at the same time formulated a demand on his team: „I hope that the performance is also there for our fans who make the effort to come to the stadium.“
Kompany thus made it clear that the external circumstances should not be an excuse. Instead, he sees the game as an opportunity to give something back to the supporters despite the difficult conditions
Special measures confirm exceptional situation
The situation has been triggered by a warning strike called by Verdi in local public transport, which particularly affects buses and subway trains. As the majority of fans usually travel to the Allianz Arena by public transport, the club is expecting considerable restrictions on arrivals and departures
Munich’s public transport company is responding with special measures. A limited special subway service will be set up in the evening and additional buses will also be deployed. The familiar shuttle service from the Donnersberger Brücke S-Bahn station will also be increased. FC Bayern will also be providing additional shuttle buses from the nearby campus
Nevertheless, the club is warning of delays. FC Bayern is appealing to all fans to allow considerably more time and – if possible – to form car pools. The cup match against Leipzig will therefore not only be a challenge in sporting terms, but also in terms of organization.
