After weeks of stalemate and growing pressure, a solution has now been found in the contract poker game surrounding Dayot Upamecano. The centre-back has decided at the last minute to stay at FC Bayern and extended his contract until 2030. New details of the poker game have now been revealed
As reported by SPORT1, the deal was preceded by a nerve-wracking final spurt in which the Munich club deliberately went for maximum escalation
At the beginning of the week, Bayern’s management once again stepped up the pressure. On Monday, the record champions demanded a final decision from Upamecano and his advisors. The message was clear: leave or stay. At the same time, those responsible made it clear that the contract offer that had been on the table since December would no longer be improved
Media reports recently claimed that FC Bayern had already withdrawn the offer before Upamecano finally agreed to it. According to SPORT1, however, the showdown took a slightly different course. The offer was not finally off the table, but rather Munich deliberately used a threatening backdrop in a final meeting. The clear message was that the offer would be withdrawn if there was any further hesitation
What particularly annoyed the Bayern bosses, according to the report, was that the central defender’s advisors were still setting new conditions even on the last day of the self-imposed deadline. It was precisely this approach that had previously stalled the poker game time and again and tested the patience of the club’s management to the limit
Upamecano took responsibility himself
In the end, however, the player himself was apparently the decisive factor in the breakthrough. According to SPORT1, Upamecano took responsibility at the crucial moment and personally gave his „yes“ to the Munich club. Previously, the Frenchman had largely stayed out of the talks for weeks and left the negotiations to his entourage

This intervention is viewed positively at Säbener Straße and also confirms the impression that honorary president Uli Hoeneß had recently described in kicker. The Bayern patron had suspected that Upamecano was basically leaning towards staying, but that it was primarily his advisors who wanted to push him in a different direction
Shortly before the deadline expired, the central defender intervened himself and got the deal over the finishing line. With his decision, Upamecano now provides planning security in the Bayern defense and at the same time sends a clear signal for his future at the record champions.
