Konrad Laimer has long been a permanent fixture at FC Bayern. Now, for the first time, the midfielder himself has commented on a possible contract extension, emphasizing more than just financial aspects.
In an interview with Sky, the 28-year-old spoke openly about his thoughts on his future at the record champions. The Austrian made it clear that a decision for him is not just about the salary: „It’s not just the money, there are of course other factors. I’ve always been a gut person and will always remain a gut person.“
As Laimer went on to explain, interpersonal factors play a decisive role: „It’s important to me how people talk to you, how people treat you and how valued you feel.“
The all-rounder receives support from those closest to him: „I always make my decisions together with my closest circle. My parents and my wife help me with this. If I am then happy with the decision and can look in the mirror, then I make the decision that is good for me, and that is what I will always do.“
Laimer extension before the deal is done?
It was recently reported that talks over an extension with FC Bayern are at an advanced stage. According to Sky, an extension of his contract until 2029 is close to being finalized – combined with a significant salary increase. The current contract runs until 2027.
Laimer moved to Munich from RB Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2023 and quickly developed into an indispensable key player. According to BILD, his current salary is said to be around nine million euros. A sum that is no longer considered appropriate by those close to him. In view of his role as a regular and all-purpose weapon in midfield, his camp is demanding an adjusted offer.
Even before the interview, Christian Falk had summarized the situation in the Bayern Insider podcast as follows: Laimer arrived without much fanfare, played his way into the team and is now demanding the corresponding recognition. The club seems to be acknowledging this accordingly: an agreement now seems only a matter of time.
