The German record champions remain on course, but there are critical voices about their current style of play, including Dietmar Hamann.
Although FC Bayern won against FC St. Pauli, they once again had to contend with a deficit. For TV pundit Dietmar Hamann, this is no longer a coincidence, but a worrying pattern. The former international sees the early goals conceded as a serious problem. „This is the fourth time in a row that Bayern have fallen behind. They should change that,“ Hamann told Sky.
The 52-year-old referred to a strenuous first half of the season and stressed that the pressure is likely to increase in the future. „You don’t always want to be trailing,“ said Hamann with a view to the upcoming winter months. It was not only against St. Pauli that FCB had great difficulty creating clear opportunities from the game.
The game only turned in stoppage time, with Luis Díaz scoring first to give his side the lead before Nicolas Jackson made it 3-1 shortly afterwards. Hamann paid tribute to the visitors‘ performance: „It’s a shame that the goal came so late. They would have deserved a point.“
Hainer: „Shows the morale“
Coach Vincent Kompany praised his team’s late victory and saw it as an important sign. „Such hard-fought victories are part of a season. It gives us confidence for the future that we can win in such situations,“ explained the Belgian. President Herbert Hainer also highlighted the team’s will: „We had to fight for a long time, but on the other hand it shows the team’s morale, that they believe in themselves.“
Didi Hamann’s statements are unlikely to leave much of an impression at Säbener Straße, even if Bayern have recently revealed some weaknesses in their strong season so far. Vincent Kompany and his team will nevertheless do everything in their power to make their next appearances more confident and not have to chase a deficit again.
