It has been clear since this season at the latest: Konrad Laimer has become an integral part of the Bayern squad. The Austrian delivers outstanding performances week after week. In yesterday’s 4:0 win against Brugge in the Champions League, he was also present all over the pitch and set up three goals – a symbol of his current strength in form.

Laimer himself clearly sees his future in Munich. When asked on Sky whether he could envisage an early contract extension beyond 2027, the 28-year-old replied with a smile: „I’m open to anything. I feel very comfortable here.“

The midfielder, who moved to Säbener Straße from RB Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, has developed from a solid supplementary player to an undisputed top performer in recent months. Laimer has really blossomed under Vincent Kompany – thanks to his tireless running, his aggression when pressing and his tactical understanding.

Whereas in his debut season he was often shuttled between the starting eleven and the bench, he is now a permanent fixture in the Bayern team. Kompany particularly appreciates his commitment and versatility – qualities that Laimer demonstrates in every game.

„He is currently playing at an outstanding level,“ praised sporting director Christoph Freund after the Bruges game. „We hope he will continue to play here for many years to come.“

From the shadows to the limelight

Laimer was long regarded as a player who shone in the shadows of the stars – inconspicuous but indispensable. Now, at the latest, he is the centre of attention. With his strong performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League, he has not only played his way into the hearts of the fans, but has also cemented the trust of those in charge.

His contract with FC Bayern runs until 2027, but the statements he has made suggest that An early extension is by no means out of the question. Given his current form and status, this would be a logical step – both in sporting and strategic terms.
