Jonathan Tah is currently said to be FC Bayern’s preferred option to strengthen the central defence next summer. It was recently even reported that a verbal agreement had already been reached between the German record champions and the 28-year-old. Now the Leverkusen star himself has commented on the ongoing transfer rumours.

In an interview with Sky during his stay at the German national team’s headquarters, Tah commented on a possible transfer in the summer: „I always had the goal of winning a title with Leverkusen in order to achieve something. I’ve now achieved that and played my part. We’ll see what the future brings.“

The 24-time international himself hinted that he will have to make an important decision about his future after the home European Championships: „It’s clear that I will have to make a decision about my future at some point, because the club have clearly communicated that I either extend my contract or leave, as they don’t want to be in a situation where a player leaves on a free transfer. I fully understand that. That’s why I’m now faced with this decision and I’ll make it soon.“

Tah delighted with Bayern’s interest

According to Sky, a verbal agreement with the German record champions is already in the bag. When asked about FC Bayern as a possible future employer, Tah said: „I’m thinking about what the next right step is for me. Whether it’s to stay in Leverkusen or go somewhere else? It’s not good to mention the names of other clubs. But the next step should be the right one and feel good.“

Although the defender made it clear that it is too early to talk about a Bayern move, he said of Munich’s interest: „I’ve read a lot about it and I’m happy to be linked with such a club. In the end, we’ll see.“

This statement definitely does not sound like a rejection of Munich, but we can only expect clearer statements about Tah’s future after the European Championship.
