As soon as Vincent Kompany signs for FC Bayern, the FCB bosses can start planning the squad together with the coach. One major construction site is the position of left-back. However, a solution must first be found with Alphonso Davies.
Alphonso Davies is currently making it difficult for FC Bayern to put together a squad for the coming season. Although Bayern would like to extend the Canadian, who still has a contract until 2025, there is no agreement on his salary. Bayern have reportedly offered him 13 million euros a year, but according to BILD, Davies wants to be one of the top earners in the squad with an annual salary of 20 million euros.
With this enormous difference, there currently seems to be no prospect of an agreement. However, Davies has not yet definitively cancelled his contract with Bayern, which is why sporting director Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund are not yet in concrete talks with potential successors. The 23-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2025. Should Bayern still want to sell him and raise money for a replacement, this would have to happen this summer.
Who will play at left-back next season?
Bayern have a few players on their radar to replace Davies. Firstly , there isTheo Hernandez – Bayern’s top target should Davies leave Munich, according to Sky. The Frenchman is currently still playing for AC Milan and is expected to cost between 80 and 100 million euros.
Ian Maatsen, on the other hand, who is currently on loan from Chelsea to Borussia Dortmund, would be cheaper. He is rumoured to have a release clause of 40 million euros. Maatsen and Vincent Kompanyalso know each other very well. They were promoted to the Premier League together with Burnley FC in the 2022/23 season.
Option three would probably be an extension for Davies. Real Madrid’s interest in the Canadian appears to have cooled. So if Davies has no alternative to Bayern, it is also possible that he will extend his contract.
