Referee Szymon Marciniak’s scandalous whistle in the match at Real Madrid could have cost FC Bayern at least extra time. Now a video has emerged that has FCB fans furious. The reason: a toiletry bag with the Real crest.
Referee Szymon Marciniak continues to cause a stir. A video is circulating on X in which the Pole can be seen with his assistants in a changing room. A toiletry bag with the Real Madrid emblem can also be seen in the room.
The Bayern fans commenting on the video on the social media platform are furious. Is Marciniak a Real fan? Or one of his assistants? That would have quite a flavour, as Marciniak caused a scandal in the match between the Whites and Bayern when he blew the whistle too early for Matthijs de Ligt’s potential equaliser. It was therefore no longer possible for the VAR to review the close offside decision.
Video comes from a referee documentary
The video, which has been available on YouTube since 22 May 2022, is from a documentary series by TV channel Canal about Poland’s professional referees. Marciniak was accompanied by a camera team during the match between Jagiellonia and Wisla Krakow.

In the video, the Real toiletry bag is on a table in the changing room. Marciniak and his assistants are probably changing on the other side of the room. It is therefore possible that the toiletry bag does not belong to them. It may belong to the fourth official or video technicians of the VAR team, who are also near the toiletry bag in the video.
It can also be assumed that a referee like Marciniak, who referees matches at the highest level, would avoid showing up with a club’s fan merchandise. However, after his scandalous whistle in the semi-final second leg against Bayern and in favour of Madrid, the images from the video are naturally causing a stir among Bayern fans.
