Those responsible at FC Bayern are still on the lookout for a new coach from next summer. Ralf Rangnick, who is currently Austria’s national team coach, is being touted by many as a possible successor to Thomas Tuchel. However, despite his recognised skills and experience, his candidacy does not appear to be uncontroversial.

According toa report in the Austrian newspaper Kurier, Ralf Rangnick remains a potential candidate to succeed Thomas Tuchel. Despite Rangnick’s apparent public rejection of the job, there are rumours of ongoing talks between him and the German record champions.

„There is absolutely no reason to think about it, let alone talk about it. I am the national coach of Austria, I put my heart and soul into it and we are really looking forward to the European Championships,“ Rangnick said recently. However, it is now rumoured that Rangnick would not be averse to taking over the job in Munich in the summer.

Within the Bayern management, however, there are said to be both supporters and sceptics of the Austrian national coach. Some see him as the ideal candidate, who could shine with his tactical nous and experience in the Bundesliga. Others, on the other hand, doubt whether his methods and approach would go down well at a top club like Bayern Munich. In particular, the clear balance of power within the club could be an obstacle for Rangnick.

Austria wants to keep Rangnick

„Why should he?“ was his answer to the question about contacts with Bayern, which is likely to have caused confusion in Munich. These uncertainties and hesitations are key points that make him appear a less attractive candidate to some decision-makers. At present, it seems to be emerging that former Bayern coach and current Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann is the top candidate to succeed Tuchel.

Furthermore, Rangnick’s contractual commitment to the Austrian Football Association until 2026 adds further complexity. The Austrians would like to keep their head coach beyond the upcoming European Championships in Germany.
