Thomas Müller addresses FC Bayern’s poor defensive behaviour during the Munich side’s embarrassment in Heidenheim. But the veteran is already looking towards London.
After FC Bayern’s 3:2 defeat at 1. FC Heidenheim, Thomas Müller criticised the Bayern defence for the hosts‘ 2:1 goal.
The 34-year-old analysed: „The game had two different halves, we lead 2-0 here, then a long ball leads to a goal against. The way we defended was certainly no masterpiece.“
But the attacking performance was also not good enough for Müller, especially in the second half: „Then we weren’t good enough in front of goal in the second half either. We had just as many top-class chances as Heidenheim. But in the end, they just turned it around and we didn’t score any more goals,“ explained the 2014 world champion.
Müller: „Not in the best phase in the club’s history“
Bayern are now 16 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the table. The gap to fifth place, which would mean missing out on the Champions League, is now just seven points.
Müller said of the team’s situation: „Everyone involved realises that we are not in the best phase in the club’s history.“
However, the veteran is now focussing all his attention on the upcoming quarter-final first leg at Arsenal FC in London: „Thanks to my many years of experience, I’m already back in fighting mode for Tuesday,“ said Müller: „We can’t turn the result around anyway. There’s no point in picking on each other.“
Müller sent a fighting message to the British capital after the defeat in tranquil Heidenheim: „The resentment in me is almost smiling again in the direction of Tuesday. We’ll give it our all on Tuesday.“
