TV pundit Lothar Matthäus calls on FC Bayern to part ways with Thomas Tuchel ahead of schedule. The former FCB star sharply criticises the coach.

Lothar Matthäus has clearly criticised FC Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel following Munich’s embarrassing 3:2 defeat at newly promoted Heidenheim. The record international even called for Munich to part ways with their coach early.

„Thomas Tuchel can no longer reach the team,“ Matthäus scolded on Sky: „There are strange press conferences, there are strange statements, there is strange criticism from him and that’s why I could imagine Bayern reacting even in the next 24 or 48 hours.“

The 63-year-old no longer believes Tuchel is capable of turning Bayern’s fortunes around: „It can’t go on like this, the team needs a new impetus and Thomas Tuchel can no longer provide that,“ Matthäus made clear.

Matthäus: „There’s always something to save“

However, Matthäus does not have a potential successor ready for the end of the season in the event of a lightning split: „I don’t have one in mind. The coaches who have been named now are planned for the future. Take one and simply create a better atmosphere.“

Tuchel will leave the German record champions after the season anyway. After the defeat in Heidenheim, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl and sporting director Max Eberl had ruled out a separation before Tuesday’s Champions League match in London at FC Arsenal.

The only chance of winning a title this season is in the premier class – even if that is almost unimaginable after a performance like the one in Heidenheim.

When asked whether FC Bayern can still be saved, Matthäus replied: „There’s always something that can be saved, but I think the climate between Thomas Tuchel and the team is broken. When you lead 2-0 in Heidenheim, you can’t let them take the points away from you.“
