The search for a coach at FC Bayern is in full swing. In addition to Xabi Alonso, the name Roberto De Zerbi has been repeatedly mentioned in Munich recently. According to the latest reports, Bayern are holding concrete talks with the 44-year-old.

While Xabi Alonso is still keeping Bayern on tenterhooks and does not want to wait until after the current season to discuss his sporting future, Munich are on the lookout for alternatives. With Roberto De Zerbi, the German record champions have a plan B for Alonso up their sleeve.

Recently, there have been increasing reports that De Zerbi is a serious alternative for Bayern behind Alonso. According to reports, sporting director Max Eberl in particular is a big fan of De Zerbi.

De Zerbi leaves all options open

As the transfer insider Matteo Moretto now reports, De Zerbi is not just one of many names on Bayern’s list of coaches. According to Moretto, there has been „direct contact“ between Bayern and De Zerbi in recent weeks.

As Moretto claims to have learnt, the Italian is „fascinated and flattered by FC Bayern’s interest“. Like Alonso, however, the 44-year-old does not want to make a quick decision about his future. De Zerbi is therefore waiting and examining all available options.

De Zerbi is currently under contract with Brighton & Hove Albion in England and is one of the rising stars on the island. Before his time in the Premier League, the Italian played for Shakhtar Donetsk and US Sassuolo, among others.

Interestingly, De Zerbi would be significantly cheaper than Alonso. Thanks to a €10 million release clause, he could leave Brighton early in the summer. In comparison: Bayern would have to pay Bayer Leverkusen between 20-25 million euros for Alonso, as reported by Sky.
