The DFB squad is about to kick off the 2024 European Championship year at home and is currently preparing for the upcoming test matches against France and the Netherlands. Returning player Toni Kroos was delighted with Bayern star Jamal Musiala at the press conference.

In less than three months, the German national team will face Scotland in the opening game of the European Championship. After several disappointing tournaments in a row recently, former Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann is expected to get the DFB team back on the road to success.

Toni Kroos, a 2014 world champion, is also expected to contribute to this. The 34-year-old announced his retirement from the national team after the 2021 European Championship. He is now expected to use his experience to bring stability to a team that was visibly unsettled at times.

Kroos raves about Musiala

In his first DFB training session, the returning Kroos met some new faces alongside his former team-mates. In the press conference afterwards, the former Bayern star raved about Jamal Musiala in particular. The 21-year-old has shown outstanding performances at FC Bayern of late, scoring seven goals in his last three Bundesliga games.

„I don’t watch a lot of Bundesliga, I tend to watch the Champions League. I watch Jamal there too. Even if I’d never seen him before, this morning’s training session would have been enough for me,“ said the five-time Champions League winner.

The qualities of Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz also seem to have made a lasting impression on Kroos. One key to success is therefore to ensure that „they can play the football they have in their legs.“ Kroos wants to ensure this personally on the pitch: „That’s where I see my role. These exceptional players should be fun. We have to get them into the positions on the pitch where they make us all happy. I take this task with me.“

The national team is currently preparing for the upcoming test matches in Frankfurt. On Saturday, they will face France in Lyon before the home game against the Netherlands on Tuesday.
