Ahead of the thrilling clash against Wolfsburg, the Bayern women emerge from the weekend as winners. Following the slip-up by their rivals the day before, the Munich side did not give RB Leipzig the slightest chance and extended their lead in the table. The game is decided early on.

The FCB women capitalised on VfL Wolfsburg’s defeat and extended their lead at the top of the table with a 5:0 (3:0) victory over newly promoted RB Leipzig. They are now four points ahead of the Wolves, who lost 2-1 at Hoffenheim on Friday. Bayern could make a preliminary decision in the battle for the championship next weekend.

The FCB women made their first appearance at the Bayern Campus in the special jerseys designed exclusively for them. The new outfit seemed to give the FCB women an extra boost. They shocked the visitors right at the start with a lightning double strike.

Pernille Harder capitalised on a rebound, marched alone towards the RB goal and slotted home after just 110 seconds to give Bayern the lead. Lea Schüller added the second goal in the 4th minute. Jovana Damnjanovic had made good progress down the right and Schüller only had to finish in the centre.

After the superior opening phase, the Bayern women were briefly sloppy, almost allowing Leipzig to score the equaliser. First, Marla Grohs defused a shot from Mimmi Larsson. After the subsequent corner, Sandra Starke had a free shot in the penalty area but missed the target (13′)

Schüller and Harder follow up

It remained a flash in the pan, because six minutes later the game was already decided in favour of Munich. RB keeper Elvira Herzog let a Gwinn shot bounce straight to the feet of Schüller, who coolly dusted off the ball to make it 3:0.

With the score so clear, the game tailed off a little and Linda Sembrant missed another chance. A small downer shortly before the break: Damnjanovic had to come off injured after taking a knock.

The FCB women took control of the game in the second half and increased their lead to 4:0 with a wonderfully executed goal: after a one-two between Linda Dallmann and Sydney Lohmann, Harder only had to keep her foot in the centre (63′).

Dallmann sealed the deal with the fifth goal in stoppage time. The focus is now fully on the top game at VfL Wolfsburg.
