Xabi Alonso is FC Bayern’s favourite candidate to succeed Thomas Tuchel. There are even rumours that talks have already taken place with the Spaniard. However, the league leaders from Leverkusen are unimpressed by the ongoing speculation.

The search for a coach at the German record champions is currently in full swing. According to consistent media reports, the current Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is the absolute favourite of the Bayern bosses. Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are also said to be in favour of signing the former Bayern star.

As reported by Sky, Bayern certainly have good cards in the Alonso poker. Should the Basque player actually leave the Werkself at the end of the season, FCB is considered his favoured destination. Talks with Alonso are even said to have taken place recently. According to reports, he has been informed of the interest from Munich and has made it clear that he has no plans to move to Liverpool next summer.

Simon Rolfes is relaxed

For Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes, the public speculation surrounding his star coach is apparently no cause for concern. „Rumours are not wrong in the first instance and are often a sign that you are successful,“ Rolfes told Sky.

It is therefore „not a problem, I think everyone understands that. That’s why it’s not an issue for us. Internally it’s quiet, relaxed, focussed on the daily work, on the next game,“ said the former international. The fact that there are rumours is part of the business, says Rolfes: „We have to live with it, but that’s not a problem either.

Xabi Alonso’s contract at Leverkusen runs until 2026, but there is rumoured to be a verbal agreement with the Leverkusen bosses that will allow him to move to one of his former clubs as early as next summer. In addition to FC Bayern, these include Liverpool FC and Real Madrid. According to information from Sky, a transfer fee of between 15 and 25 million euros would be due in the summer.

Should an Alonso signing not materialise, Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi, ex-Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt and Sebastian Hoeneß from VfB Stuttgart are considered potential alternatives.
