After the disappointing 2:2 draw against SC Freiburg last Friday, Thomas Tuchel was not sparing with his criticism. In his podcast, Mario Basler was particularly incensed by the performance of Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich.

FC Bayern are currently stumbling from setback to setback. They have only won one of their last five games. As a result of the draw against Freiburg, Munich are now ten points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Following last Friday’s match, Thomas Tuchel was visibly disappointed with his team‘s performance. „It was hara-kiri at times. We did things we’ve never done before. We’ve never talked about them,“ said the 50-year-old.

„He does what he wants, runs around wherever he wants“

Ex-Bayern player Mario Basler also clearly criticised the team afterwards – with Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich in particular getting their comeuppance. „If you take the last four or five games, I have to say: Kimmich and Müller – simply bad,“ Basler criticised in his podcast. Müller, who was substituted in the 76th minute in Freiburg, „only gesticulated with his hands and feet“ and was „subterranean“, was the scathing judgement of the former international.

Kimmich also received the full brunt of Basler’s criticism. The 55-year-old has been a major critic of the former Leipzig player for some time. „He played badly, performed underground. He does what he wants, runs around wherever he wants,“ scolded Basler.

Kimmich was again deployed at right-back against Freiburg and was taken off the pitch in the 64th minute. The 29-year-old would „do well on the bench“, Basler continued: „He wants to be the biggest and best player at FC Bayern. But he’s as far away from that as the earth is from the moon.“

According to Basler, FC Bayern would have to reckon with a relatively low transfer fee in the event of Kimmich’s departure. „Kimmich might still fetch 30 million – two years ago it was 50 million. Now it’s getting less and less. At the same time, he earns an arseful of money,“ rumbled Basler. The national player’s current market value is 75 million euros.
