FC Bayern have their backs to the wall in the Champions League after losing 1-0 in the first leg against Lazio Roma. Thomas Tuchel and his team urgently need a win tonight to progress to the quarter-finals of the top flight. Max Eberl was confident ahead of the game.
Bayern have only won one of their last five games. The form curve has been pointing downwards for weeks. An early exit from the top flight would be a sporting and financial disaster for Munich.
„There is no other opinion at the moment“
FCB fans are not the only ones hoping for a turnaround against Lazio Rome; new sporting director Max Eberl is also firmly expecting a significant improvement in performance compared to recent weeks: „I’m hoping for a reaction from the team. This is the Champions League, the competition where we are most likely to achieve something. When I see the players, when I see the team, it’s outstanding. Everyone here in Munich wants to progress. We want to utilise this positive energy today. I have a good feeling today,“ emphasised the 50-year-old in an interview with Prime Video ahead of the second leg against the Italians
Eberl also emphasised that Tuchel will remain Bayern coach even if he is eliminated: „Yes! There is no other opinion at the moment.“ Over the past few days, numerous reports have been circulating that an elimination in the Champions League against Lazio could lead to Tuchel being sacked immediately.
