Only shortly after FC Bayern Munich’s 124th birthday, the club will reach the next historic milestone on Friday. The Munich club will be the first Bundesliga club to play its 2000th Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg. Only one other club will break this mark this year.

FC Bayern have dominated the eternal table of the German Bundesliga for some time now. Although Munich were not one of the founding members of the top division in 1963, they have played the most matches in the top flight. Ahead of the 24th matchday game next Friday, Munich have played 1999 matches. Only SV Werder Bremen, who have played in the league on 1991 occasions, are within striking distance of this figure.

According to the three-point system, which was introduced in 1995 to count points, Munich have an impressive 4048 points. This puts them a huge distance ahead of historic second-placed Borussia Dortmund (3120 points). This gives them an overall points average of 2.24. Bayern have scored 4484 goals and conceded 2178.

Bayern need a win in their 2000th Bundesliga match

The German record champions will celebrate their 1207th league win in their 2000th competitive match on Friday evening (8.30pm, DAZN). Bayern must win against SC Freiburg to keep their chances of winning the Bundesliga title alive. Nevertheless, even with a perfect record, they will have to rely on at least three slip-ups from league leaders Leverkusen in the remainder of the league season.

The Werkself are currently eight points clear at the top of the table and have not lost any of their last 32 competitive matches this season. Nevertheless, the Reds can still dream of winning their 12th league title in a row.
