Laimer on his failed move to Bayern: „It is useless to complain about it now“
Austrian midfielder Konrad Laimer was close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer to wrap up an incredible transfer window. But the transfer did not happen in the end.
Laimer has spoken for the first time about his failed move to the Bavarians through an interview with BILD a couple of days ago. The RB Leipzig midfielder says that it is not useful to complain about the failed move: „That’s football. I’ve had a lot of conversations this summer, internally here in Leipzig, and also a lot with my family and my girlfriend. Ultimately, it didn’t work out in the end. It’s no use complaining about it now“, said the midfielder.
Laimer also confirms that he had talks with Julian Nagelsmann. The head coach has long been demanding ‚a pressing machine‘ with great defensive qualities and suggested the player to the Bayern bosses. However, the talks with the coach were not that active: „There was brief contact, but it was limited“, continued Laimer.
The contract of Konrad Laimer ends in 2023 and he would be a free agent. According to rumors, Laimer is still a serious issue for the club even in the future. Laimer himself doesn’t want to confirm nor deny anything about how his future will proceed. For the moment, he is focusing on the season with Leipzig: „I still have one year left in the contract. Let’s see what the year brings. I want to have a successful season first. I have a lot of confidence in the squad to challenge Bayern too – but for that we need consistency“
