Kahn is relaxed about contract extensions: „Our goal is to win the UCL title every year“
Bayern board has been at the center of criticism over the past couple of months due to many reasons; lack of reinforcements and the bad handling of negotiations with Robert Lewandowski and Niklas Süle. Despite extending with Coman, Goretzka, and Kimmich, the sun is not always shining bright at Bayern.
In an interview for TZ, club CEO Oliver Kahn explains the current approach on the contract extensions and the squad reinforcements. Kahn tells ‚TZ‘, that „Bayern knows what they want as far as the sporting achievement is concerned. Our goal is to win the Champions League every year“. When asked how would it be feasible, Kahn emphasizes that such success will only be possible with „targeted reinforcements as well as contract talks with our players.“
Bayern are yet to extend the contracts of Lewandowski and co. The former goalkeeper does not want to be pressurized and says that he is relaxed on the contract talks with the important players: „As far as the talks are concerned, I am relaxed, we don’t let ourselves be put under pressure from the outside.“
„From now the hot phase begins, now only the tenth Bundesliga title in a row and the Champions League count. Bayern are known to be there when it matters the most“
Kahn criticizes Matthäus, again
Former Bayern midfielder Lothar Matthäus has been criticizing the board and those responsible, in particular Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn. Recently, the 60 years old told ‚SportBild‘ that he finds it „disrespectful that the club hasn’t made any contact over a contract extension with Lewandowski as of today. Bayern should consider themselves lucky that Robert Lewandowski is a professional with a great character.“
Following the recent criticism, Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has now responded to the former Ballon d’Or winner: „After his career as a coach and footballer, he hasn’t managed any club. Unfortunately, he is interpreting his role as a good football pundit to create headlines.“
„He would be very well advised to not talk about things where he has no insight or knowledge about.“
