FC Bayern was about to sign Konrad Laimer last summer. However, the transfer burst on the home straight because Munich could not agree with RB Leipzig on the fee. According to current reports, the Austrian will move to the Isar next summer.

Postponed does not mean cancelled. True to this saying, FC Bayern seems to have already bagged its first transfer for the summer of 2023. As Bild reports, Bayern are still very interested in Konrad Laimer and the 25yo midfielder still wants to go to Munich.

Bayern is still looking for a real six

Bild reporter Tobi Altschäffl reported in the ‚Bayern Insider‘ podcast, the agreement between Bayern and the Austrian international, which was reached last summer, still exists. If nothing more serious happens, the defensive midfielder will switch from league competitor Leipzig to Munich at the end of the season on a free transfer.

Another point that clearly speaks for Bayern is the fact that Bayern want to strengthen the six position and Julian Nagelsmann is an absolute fan of Laimer. FCB is therefore looking for a defensively strong midfielder who should have Joshua Kimmich’s back.

FCB also maintains a very good relationship with Laimer’s agents, who also represented Sadio Mané in his recent move from Liverpool. Bayern were willing to pay up to 25m€ for Laimer in the past transfer window. However, Leipzig insisted on 30m€ and in the end, the two clubs could not agree on a change.

Laimer himself recently publicly stated that he would have liked to switch to the German record champions and that he is ready to take this step in his career. But why Laimer? There is a conclusive explanation for this too: The 25-year-old is considered a ball-conquering machine, and could act as a vacuum cleaner alongside Joshua Kimmich and take on the actual task of a defensive six. Or as Altschäffl puts it: ‚I think it makes sense if someone comes along who can do a bit of the dirty work‘

Going ‚all-in‘ for Florian Wirtz

Meanwhile, Laimer isn’t the only midfielder FC Bayern are interested in. In the same podcast, Bild reporter Tobi Altschäffl also uncovered information regarding Florian Wirtz. Bayern do not want him leaving Germany as they see him as a core member of the German national team in the years to come. According to sources, Bayern have informed the player to ‚get in touch‘ whenever he wants to move. Them, the club will go all-out for him, regardless of the fees. Bayern already held a meeting with the player and his agents, and was impressed by the project the club could offer. The club are hoping Leverkusen miss out on the Champions League places, which would lower the asking price even further, to around 70m€ or thereabouts
