Bayern striker Harry Kane is considered one of the top contenders to win the Ballon d’Or. The English forward has performed at an extremely high level during the period relevant to the award.
The Bayern star’s biggest competitor at the moment appears to be Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona. Yamal won the World Cup with Spain this summer, which naturally influences the voting.
Internally, FC Bayern is confident that Kane is the deserving winner of the award for the world’s best player. Most recently, the forward received support from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Kramer in the Running for the Ballon d’Or
However, the poll results and predictions from various sources fluctuate. At times, Kane was clearly in the lead; then Yamal was neck-and-neck; now, Kane once again holds a clear advantage.
On the sidelines of the UEFA Champions League match against Viking Stavanger (3–3), in which Kane once again scored twice, expert Christoph Kramer spoke on Amazon Prime Video about the Ballon d’Or debate and revealed that he has mixed feelings about Kane’s potential win.
“I think if all the coaches in the world were to vote, it would be Harry Kane. But because it also has to do with magic and charisma, I’d say Lamine Yamal,” said the former national team player, who helped Germany win the World Cup in 2014.
However, according to Kramer, that’s not a sure thing. He added: “Journalists, of course, also have their own take on soccer.”
The former Borussia Mönchengladbach pro particularly emphasized that Kane is of immense value to a team. “As a coach, you’d love to have Harry Kane on your team. In my opinion, he’s more valuable to Bayern than any other player is to his team,” Kramer continued.
Voting has already taken place; the deadline was September 28. This means it’s essentially already decided who will ultimately win the trophy. It will be presented at a gala in London on October 26. So we won’t have to wait much longer.
