Harry Kane and FC Bayern are moving ever closer to a contract extension. Talks between the German record champions and their star striker have been ongoing for some time, and both sides have recently expressed strong optimism.
However, important contract details still need to be ironed out before a final agreement can be reached. According to information from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Kane wants to include two specific provisions in his new contract.
Both pertain to a possible future departure from Munich and, in particular, a return by the 33-year-old to the Premier League.
Kane is demanding an exit clause
According to these reports, Kane wants to include an exit clause in his Bayern contract once again. This would give him the option to return to England at a later date.
Added to this is a second demand in which, of all teams, Tottenham Hotspur plays a role. Kane’s longtime former club is to be granted a so-called matching right. Should FC Bayern accept an offer for the striker in the future, the Spurs could then match it on the same terms.
However, Romano does not expect these points to derail the contract extension. Rather, the transfer expert believes that Bayern and Kane are close to reaching an agreement. “It’s really, really getting closer. I think it’s going to work out; it’s just around the corner.”
A new contract lasting all the way to 2030?
In addition to the two clauses, the parties must also determine the exact duration of the contract. An extension through 2029 is on the table; Kane might even sign through 2030.
That would be remarkable given his age. Kane will turn 33 next summer, and with a contract running through 2030, he would already be 36 by the time the new deal expires. At FC Bayern, however, the Englishman enjoys a special status thanks to his performances.
Kane himself has also recently hinted that a decision is imminent. “We’re still in talks, and I think they’re moving in the right direction,” explained the captain of the English national team.
From a sporting perspective, there is hardly any doubt that the partnership will continue. Kane remains the central figure in Bayern’s offense and feels at home in Munich.
The key question, therefore, no longer seems to be whether both sides fundamentally want to continue. Rather, it’s about the specific terms of the new contract—and what options Kane will keep open for his future.
