Michael Olise has long since established himself as one of FC Bayern’s top performers. The Frenchman’s strong performances have not gone unnoticed by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The former CEO is full of praise for the 24-year-old—and even compares him to Lamine Yamal.
In an interview with the Abendzeitung München, Rummenigge was asked how difficult it might be for Munich to keep Olise in the long term. The supervisory board member does not see any immediate need for action, given that Olise’s contract runs through 2029. Looking ahead, however, the record champions will have to meet their star attacker halfway.
“He’s still under contract until 2029. At some point, the club will have to sit down with him and make him a reasonable offer,” Rummenigge explained.
Exactly what the long-time CEO of the Munich club considers “reasonable” remains to be seen. According to rumors, Olise is set to receive a new mega-contract with the record champions. If true, this could see him join the ranks of the absolute top earners along the Isar with an annual salary of up to 25 million euros.
“He’s exceptional in his position.”
The fact that Rummenigge considers a long-term commitment important is primarily linked to the French international’s athletic development. In his position, Olise is already among the absolute best in the world in the 70-year-old’s view.
“He’s exceptional in his position. There are two outstanding players in this role: Olise and Lamine Yamal. Right now, I’d even say that Olise’s game is more mature.”
That’s remarkable praise. Despite his young age, Yamal is already one of the biggest stars in international soccer. Still, Rummenigge believes Olise is currently more advanced in one key area.
These comments come at a time when there is repeated speculation about the Bayern star’s long-term future. Most recently, it was reported that Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, in particular, are monitoring the Frenchman’s situation. However, Olise currently has no concrete plans to leave Munich.
Olise and Kane are the family’s favorites
Bayern also has no reason to consider a sale. Olise is under contract through 2029 and currently has no buyout clause. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also clarified that, contrary to reports to the contrary, no offer for the French player was received last summer.
Rummenigge also illustrates just how highly Olise is regarded with a personal anecdote. “By the way, Olise and Harry are the two absolute favorites in my family—all my grandchildren wear Olise or Kane jerseys.”
Harry Kane and Olise are thus not only two of Bayern’s most influential players on the field, but are apparently also particularly popular in the Rummenigge household.
The key task for Munich in the long term will be to keep Olise beyond 2029. Rummenigge has already made it clear what he believes is needed to achieve this: an offer that does justice to the Frenchman’s now extraordinary status.
