FC Bayern has achieved a victory in the dispute over the hefty fine imposed following the pyrotechnics incidents at the DFB Cup final. After the Munich club filed an appeal, the originally imposed fine was significantly reduced.
The DFB Sports Court had initially fined the German record champions 260,000 euros. The reason was the pyrotechnics incidents surrounding the Cup final against VfB Stuttgart.
However, Bayern was not willing to accept this decision and filed an appeal against the ruling. This paid off financially: The fine has now been reduced to 170,000 euros. As a result, FCB will have to pay 90,000 euros less than originally planned.
Stuttgart also successfully appealed
It wasn’t just FC Bayern that challenged the original decision. Cup final opponent Stuttgart had also initially been fined 260,000 euros and subsequently filed an appeal.
The amount was also reduced for VfB. Following the new ruling, the Swabians still have to pay 200,000 euros. However, at 60,000 euros, the reduction is smaller than that granted to the record champions.
In total, the two fines have thus been reduced from an original combined total of 520,000 euros to 370,000 euros. Bayern and Stuttgart are saving a combined 150,000 euros thanks to their appeals.
Bayern’s fine is reduced by about 35 percent
The reduction is particularly significant for the Munich club. The originally assessed fine of 260,000 euros has been reduced by 90,000 euros. This corresponds to a reduction of just under 35 percent.
The use of pyrotechnics in the fan sections regularly results in hefty fines from the DFB Sports Court. Especially during major matches, the total fines can quickly rise due to the number of items set off.
For FC Bayern, the proceedings have now turned out to be significantly less severe—at least financially—than initially expected.
